The Daily Star - New booklet examines ideal model for party elections, February 17, 2012

BEIRUT: The Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections released a booklet on internal elections within Lebanese parties from across the political spectrum Thursday.
The report’s author, Shawkat Ashtai, said his research sheds light on types of elections within parties’ representative bodies, along with their mandate and bylaws for running party elections.
The booklet entitled “Elections in the Lebanese Political Parties” was launched in the presence of representatives of political parties and civil society organizations.
Ashtai said the report also examines the representation of women, youth, and people with special needs in parties’ executive bodies.
He recommended that the proportional representation system should be adopted when carrying out internal party elections.
He added that party bylaws should clearly mention that the president of a party should not hold office for more than two consecutive terms.
