The Daily Star - Forest fires devastate large areas of woodland, July 7 2012

TRIPOLI, Lebanon: Around 50,000 square meters of pine and oak forests in Akkar were destroyed Friday by a fire, which was brought about by high temperatures. The blaze broke out near the town of Beino, and Civil Defense personnel, assisted by local residents, rushed to the scene to bring it under control. However, strong winds caused the fire to spread rapidly and required the intervention of Civil Defense units from Bireh, Halba and Qobeiyat. After the fire subsided, Civil Defense volunteers remained active to keep the ground cool in order to prevent the blaze from erupting again.
