The Daily Star - Jumblatt: Hezbollah's position on STL should be considered - July 20, 2011

BEIRUT: Hezbollah’s stance on the Special Tribunal for Lebanon should be taken into consideration, as they are represented within the government, Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt said Wednesday.
“There are parties in Lebanon who describe the international tribunal as a conspiracy against them, mainly Hezbollah who enjoys representation in the Parliament and the Cabinet ... we should take such elements into consideration,” Jumblatt said following a meeting with Russia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
Hezbollah and its allies in the March 8 alliance have repeatedly described the U.N.-backed court as a U.S.-Israeli project aimed at targeting the resistance and have questioned its credibility. Hezbollah’s leader Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah has said that the party will not cooperate with the STL.
The tribunal was established by U.N. Security Council Resolution 1757 to investigate the 2005 car bomb which killed former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and 21 others.
“Lebanon's commitment to the international court regarding the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri does not allow any foreign intervention in Lebanon’s internal affairs,” Jumblatt added.
