Now Lebanon - Hashem says cooperation with STL subject to discussions in cabinet - July 13, 2011

Development and Liberation bloc MP Qassem Hashem said on Wednesday that there are several issues amongst the talking points of the cabinet: the matter of Lebanese judges in the UN-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), the signed memorandum of cooperation between Lebanon and the STL as well as the issue of financing the tribunal are all subject to discussions in the cabinet.
Commenting on former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s Tuesday interview, Hashem told MTV that it is the former’s right to “dream” that PM Najib Mikati’s cabinet does not last.
“Every politician has the right to dream, and to wish that his rivals are not successful so he can return to the position he previously held.”
He added, however, that not everything that one wishes for comes true.
Hariri can also call for protesting against the cabinet, Hashem said, adding that “in return, we can respond by a counter demonstration.”
The former PM said on Tuesday evening that he does not think Mikati’s cabinet will last until 2013, the date of the next parliamentary elections.
Mikati’s cabinet, which was formed in June, was granted parliament’s vote of confidence last week.
