The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

BEIRUT: A Syrian man with a life sentence was caught over the weekend trying to escape Lebanon’s largest prison complex Roumieh.The Internal Security Forces said in a statement Saturday that the man, identified as A.T., tried to escape the prison complex by hiding on top of a civilian pick-up truck that had been unloading bread inside the internal kitchen section of the convict’s wing at the jail.The 40-year old inmate is serving a life sentence after being convicted on murder charges.In separate news, the ISF said it had also apprehended a 32-year-old man, identified as K.K., who has several arrest warrants against him, including for attempted murder, theft, assault and possession of a pistol without a license in Mina, Tripoli, north Lebanon.
