Change and Reform bloc MP Nabil Nicolas said on Saturday that he is against establishing Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon.
He told LBC television that he worries that the collapse of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime would have “repercussions on Lebanon.”
“Will [Assad’s replacement] be any better?” the MP asked.
Concerning the UN-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), Nicolas said that he “does not trust in the course of international justice.”
He also said that the tribunal’s probe “will keep going even if Lebanon does not provide its annual share of funding.”
Lebanon’s government is dominated by Hezbollah and its allies, which are insisting that the country cease all cooperation with the Netherlands-based court, set up in the wake of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s 2005 murder.
The STL has charged four Hezbollah operatives in connection with the assassination.
Meanwhile, thousands of Syrians have fled into Lebanon in recent months, often using illegal border crossings, to escape the unrest gripping their country.
