iloubnan- Maronite institutions meeting: government's threats to resign are inappropriate, November 28, 2011

The Maronite institutions held a meeting Monday at Bkirki Patriarchate headed by the Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros Rai, estimating that "the government's threats to resign are totally inappropriate amid the current circumstances."

As per the statement issued in the wake of the meeting, conferees had indicated that "Lebanon and the region are going through crucial and unprecedented circumstances which urge the Lebanese politicians to adopt a responsible approach."

The statement added that "the Lebanese people's worries have increased with the escalation of the political stances which endanger the government while the country urgently needs adequate decisions that preserve its interests."

"They chose an inappropriate moment to threaten of resignation, as it is the political poles' duty to show as much solidarity and responsibility as possible," the statement explained, highlighting the importance of respecting international commitments and resolutions, particularly those related to the special tribunal for Lebanon.
