July 14, 2010 - Now Lebanon - De Freige: STL cannot hand over files to Sayyed

Lebanon First bloc MP Nabil de Freige said that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) cannot hand over its files to former General Security head Brigadier General Jamil as-Sayyed because he was detained for alleged involvement in former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s assassination, As-Sharq radio station reported on Wednesday.

Sayyed – who was detained in 2005 and released in 2009 due to lack of evidence – filed a request in March to the president of the STL, Antonio Cassese, to gain access to certain court files. He claims he was falsely accused in connection with Hariri’s murder and arbitrarily detained.
