July 27, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Wahhab: Syria, Saudi Arabia and Jumblatt mediating over STL

Tawhid Movement leader Wiam Wahhab told Al-Anbaa newspaper in an interview published on Tuesday that Syria, Saudi Arabia and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt are playing a mediating role over the issue of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).

This comes after Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said last week that the tribunal would indict Hezbollah members, while March 8 and 14 alliance figures exchanged heated words over the STL.

The rhetoric of Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s speech on Saturday, particularly on the tribunal, was acceptable, Wahhab said. This comes after Hariri said that there will not be any conflict in Lebanon and that the issue of former PM Rafik Hariri’s assassination will not cause sectarian strife in Lebanon.

Wahhab added that Hariri’s conception of Lebanese-Syrian relations has advanced correctly, which will reflect positively on both countries.

Members of the March 8 alliance have set their minds regarding the tribunal, Wahhab said, adding that the next phase will witness progress in the PM’s stances regarding the tribunal.

The Tawhid Movement leader also said that Hariri would not lead Lebanon into sectarian strife.
