July, 9 2010 - Yalibnan - Hezbollah MP threatens STL

Hezbollah MP Walid Succariyeh told Al-Manar television on Friday that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) will not dare to name any of Hezbollah’s members in its upcoming indictments related to the 2005 assassination of Lebanon’s former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Succariyeh said The STL is politicized and aims to create divisions between the Lebanese.

Succariyeh is by no means the first to threaten and attack STL.
During an interview with New TV last week, former minister Wiam Wahab, a staunch ally of Syria and Hezbollah launched his second attack against the special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) calling it an “Israeli court” and urged his allies and the Lebanese to deal with it ( STL) on this basis ( as an Israeli court).

Wahab told New TV that based on the discussions the STL officials had with the Lebanese leaders the Tribunal is headed to indict Hezbollah in the murder of Hariri.

Wahhab also said that STL Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare and his predecessor, Detlev Mehlis, were “liars,” adding that the tribunal aims at “distorting Hezbollah’s image” to hold it responsible for past assassinations.

Similarly MP Walid Jumblatt waned during an interview with As Safir about “severe repercussions if the ruling comes as per the Der Spiegel report”

A Der Spiegel report dated May 2009 revealed a link between Hezbollah and the assassination of Hariri.

STL was formed by the United Nations to try the killers of Lebanon’s former PM Rafik Hariri , who was assassinated on February 14 , 2005.
Initially Syria was accused of being behind Hariri’s murder , but ever since the Der Spiegel report surfaced, all fingers have been pointing at Hezbollah. Many analysts however believe that Hezbollah could not have done it without Syria’s help.
