The Daily Star - New postage stamp pays tribute to Imam Sadr - October 13, 2010

BEIRUT: Speaker Nabih Berri and the Sadr family presented on Monday a postage stamp issued by the Telecommunications Ministry in remembrance of disappeared Imam Musa al-Sadr.
The postage stamp was unveiled during a reception at the residence of Berri, who also heads the Amal Movment, in Ain al-Tineh.
“This is a very special day, we’re very happy although it came late,” the Imam’s sister Rabab al-Sadr, who praised the picture that was chosen for the stamp, told The Daily Star.
Sadr hoped that the Lebanese government would tackle “the essence” of her brother’s disappearance and intensify efforts to reveal his whereabouts.
The Iranian-born Lebanese Shiite cleric moved backed to Lebanon in the 1950s, and became involved in social work among the country’s largely impoverished Shiite community. In 1968-69 he formed the Higher Shiite Council to promote the Shiite community’s interests, and in 1975 he formed the Amal Movement.
In August 1978, Sadr and two companions Sheikh Mohammad Yaacoub and journalist Abbas Badreddine departed for Libya to meet with government officials but never returned. Sadr and his two companions’ disappearance was widely blamed on Libya.

On Tuesday, Speaker Berri described the disappearance of Sadr as the “biggest kidnapping in history,” and praised the Lebanese government’s decision to boycott the Arab League summit held in Libya last week.
“The decision [to boycott Arab League summits held in Libya] came very late … but too late is better than never,” the speaker told reporters in a concise speech.
Berri also announced that the National Dialogue session scheduled to be held on October 19 will be moved to November 04, so as not to coincide with a parliamentary session scheduled for the same day. –The Daily Star
