Naharnet - Qassem: Hizbullah Won't Quit Government over False Witnesses' Issue - November 31, 2010

Hizbullah deputy chief sheikh Naim Qassem said Hizbullah will not quit the national unity government over the false witnesses' issue.
"Hizbullah wants to know the real criminal whom the 'false witnesses' wanted to cover up for," Qassem said in remarks published Sunday by the Qatari newspaper al-Watan.

He said Hizbullah is against the Special Tribunal for Lebanon because the Shiite group is confident of its innocence.

"Hizbullah is against the International Tribunal because it is absolutely confident that it is not responsible for the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri," Qassem said.

Describing the STL as "politicized," Qassem said the Court has "gone beyond its target of finding the truth."

He accused the STL of seeking to "settle scores" instead.

Qassem said Hizbullah members will not hand themselves over to the Tribunal.

He called on Prime Minister Saad Hariri to find a clear-cut solution to the STL crisis and exert efforts to avoid strife.
