Iloubnan - Memorandum of Cooperation signed between Caritas Migrants Center and the Philippines Embassy - October 1, 2010

Caritas Lebanon Migrant Center and the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Lebanon with its Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Migrant Center in order to better pursue their common goal of protecting Filipino workers and assisting them in asserting their human and labor rights.

The Memorandum is the fruit of long cooperation and joint efforts between the Embassy/POLO and CLMC to better protect and serve migrant worker’s rights. It encloses 7 articles and is the first of its kind formalizing the relationship between civil society and Diplomatic Missions of sending countries. It is not the last though, as the series of contracts with the embassies of migrant workers’ countries of origin in Lebanon has just started, according to CLMC’s Management.

The document formalizes the cooperation between the Philippines Embassy/POLO and CLMC, which has been established over 15 years ago, and details areas of concern to be addressed. Both parties’ common effort will be focused on the betterment of migrant’s living and working conditions, as well as on the reduction of migrant workers’ exploitation, marginalization and exclusion.

Caritas Lebanon Migrants Center strives to meet the migrant workers’ needs by creating a network of cooperation among all concerned stakeholders, including recruitment agencies, General Security, the Embassies of sending countries and migrants themselves. It is deemed that this network will allow an efficient and productive exchange of services and data and reduce the percentage of victims of all kinds of abuse among migrants
