Naharnet - Mustaqbal Bloc Says False Witnesses Can't Be Identified before Indictment - October 12, 2010

The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc on Tuesday stressed that the emphasis, regarding the crime of murdering ex-PM Rafik Hariri, "must remain focused on unveiling the perpetrators of this crime, and other connected crimes, through the Special Tribunal for Lebanon."
"Since the occurrence of the hideous assassination crime and the rest of the crimes that followed, there have been unrelenting and various attempts at distorting the goal of unveiling the truth, derailing the tribunal and questioning its credibility," said a statement issued by the bloc after its weekly meeting in Qureitem under ex-PM Fouad Saniora.

Commenting on the ongoing controversy regarding the so-called false witnesses, the bloc noted that "unveiling the various misguidance attempts made by those who gave testimonies that lack credibility, or the so-called false witnesses, is a matter whose elements cannot be clarified and individuals cannot be identified except in light of the indictments and rulings that will be issued by the tribunal."

On a separate note, the bloc welcomed the visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Lebanon, putting it in the framework of "enhancing Lebanese-Iranian relations that are built upon friendship between the Lebanese and Iranian peoples, and upon the basis of total respect for the sovereignty and independence of the two friendly countries."
