A memo issued by NSSF director-general Mohammad Karaki said end-of-service compensation for Palestinian workers would now be calculated based on length of time worked from Sept. 2, 2010.
The memo dated May 23, 2011 said, however, that Palestinian workers would not benefit from the NSSF’s health, maternity care or family allowances.
The EU estimates the number of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon at around 280,000, below the official registered number of 400,000.
Restrictions on the right to work for Palestinian refugees were eased last August, with work permit fees scrapped and more employment fields opened up for Palestinians.
But several high-end and key professions, including medicine and law, remain out of bounds for refugees, with the reforms coming under widespread criticism from human rights groups for not going far enough.
