The Syrian newspaper Al-Watan reported on Sunday that the Lebanese army has arrested four weapons smugglers attempting to supply arms to the Syrian opposition.
Without citing a source, the paper said that Syrian nationals “Osama A.” and “Hussein R.” and Lebanese nationals “Ali A.” and “Adel M.” were arrested by Lebanese military intelligence and confessed under interrogation to “smuggling weapons to the Syrian opposition member Mamoun al-Homsi.”
The paper also said that “violent clashes occurred [Saturday] between Syrian army units and armed groups located in the town of Tall Kalakh on the border with Lebanon.
“There were reports that armed men entered the town of Tall Kalakh from northern Lebanon.”
Fleeing violence in their hometowns, hundreds of Syrians have since last week poured into the Wadi Khaled area of northern Lebanon on foot from Syrian villages near the border such as Tall Kalakh.
Up to 850 people, including women and children, have been killed and at least 8,000 arrested in the Syrian regime’s crackdown on widespread protests, according to rights groups.
