Naharnet - Report: Miqati-Aoun Disputes Will Not Lead to Collapse of Cabinet, November 1, 2011

Prime Minister Najib Miqati continues to insist on the funding of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon despite all the disagreements between members of the cabinet over the issue, As Safir newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Sources close to the PM said the rumors indicating that Miqati will resign if the cabinet doesn’t approve the funding of the STL expresses the opinions of those political parties and not his position.
Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun has continuously voiced his objection to the funding of the STL because it is unjustifiable and unconstitutional.
However, sources in the FPM told the daily that the disputes among the cabinet members will not lead to its collapse.
The sources noted that Aoun aims at improving the government’s performance especially the status of Christian civil servants.
“The FPM considers that some politicians are working on weakening its role for major political interests,” the sources said.
Last week, Aoun accused Miqati of breaking the laws and covering up major violations.
