Proving the existence of false testimonies requires evidence that cannot be obtained because the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) investigation into former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 murder is secret, Parliamentary Justice and Administration Commission head MP Robert Ghanem told Future News on Monday.
On August 18 the cabinet tasked Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar with providing a report on the issue of false testimonies. Ministers have reportedly received copies of the report, which Najjar is expected to present in the cabinet’s Tuesday session.
Evidence proving that testimonies were false can only be obtained after the STL issues its indictment, Ghanem said.
