Minister of State Adnan as-Sayyed Hussein told the Voice of Lebanon (VOL) radio station on Tuesday that the current dispute between Lebanese parties over the issue of witnesses who gave false testimonies in the investigation of the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri cannot be justified.
He voiced hope that all parties would reach consensus soon, adding that Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar’s report on the issue can help the cabinet decide which judicial authority will deal with the matter.
March 8 figures on Monday both called for the issue to be referred to the Justice Council.
Tuesday’s ministerial meeting is expected to address the issue of false testimonies. Ministers have reportedly received copies of Najjar’s report on the matter, which he is expected to present during the cabinet’s Tuesday session.
