Now Lebanon - Mitri: Cabinet postpones false witnesses’ issue - October 12, 2010

(NOW Lebanon)
Following the cabinet’s Tuesday session, Information Minister Tarek Mitri said that the false witnesses’ issue is postponed until the cabinet’s next session on October 20.
On August 18 the cabinet tasked Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar with providing a report on the issue of false testimonies in the investigation of the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
Najjar submitted his report and he pointed out that its content is legal and not political, Mitri said.
The information minister also said that the false witnesses’ issue was dealt with legally and honestly by the ministers.
The possibility of transferring the file to the Justice Council was also addressed, Mitri said, adding that each party had its own argument on the matter.
“Some ministers requested to talk and the session was postponed. The ministers would have had more time to think by the next session,” he added.
