Now Lebanon - No truth to rumors of Siddiq’s assassination, brother says - October 28, 2010

It is not true that there was an attempt to assassinate Mohammad Zuhair Siddiq in Germany, the Saudi newspaper As-Sharq al-Awsat quoted Siddiq’s brother, Imad Siddiq, as saying in its Thursday edition.
Mohammad Zuhair Siddiq is a Syrian agent who allegedly misled the international probe into former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 murder.
Siddiq’s wife called to say that he was fine after reports of his assassination surfaced, his brother said. He added that such rumors are a “prelude to his assassination, since the side that stood behind Siddiq, pushed him to give false testimony, and funded him is the same side that wants to kill him.”
It is unlikely that Siddiq has left the Gulf, since it is difficult for him to enter European countries, his brother added, saying he had last spoken to him a month ago and “he seemed comfortable and [as if] he did not have any problems.”
Lebanese authorities denied receiving any official notification of an assassination attempt, the paper also reported, although they said such notification would not necessarily be expected since Siddiq is a Syrian citizen and is not wanted by the Lebanese judiciary.
