The Daily Star - Press Syndicate stresses need for media freedom - May 14, 2011

BEIRUT: The Lebanese Press Syndicate issued a statement stressing the need for media freedom and mutual respect among media representatives and government officials, the National News Agency reported Friday.
The Press Syndicate issued a statement Friday condemning caretaker Energy Minister Gibran Bassil’s action in removing reporter Rabih Chantaf from a news conference at the ministry Wednesday. The statement affirmed that mutual respect should be the basis of the relationship between members of the media and all officials within or outside the government. “We hope that what happened to reporter Rabih Chantaf at the Energy Ministry will not be repeated,” said the statement, which also emphasized the need for media freedom and journalists’ right to obtain full and accurate information from any ministry or official department.
