The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

The Daily Star - Green Party becomes first in Lebanon to elect female leader - September 06, 2011


BEIRUT: The Green Party Lebanon has become the first party in the country to have a female leader after it elected Nada Zaarour as its president.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the party said it had also elected 15 members to its political bureau and five members to its national council, mostly new and young faces who played a crucial role in establishing the party.
Of the newly elected members, five are women. The party also said it had elected members belonging to a variety of sects.
"The party has proven that it has overcome the sectarian obstacle since it has, for the second time, elected members of all sects from various regions," the statement said.
The party was founded in 2008 by entrepreneur Philip Skaf and is the first party in Lebanon to focus solely on green politics.
