iloubnan- Hariri: The STL continues its work and justice will surely prevail, November 20, 2011

On the occasion of the fifth commemoration of the assassination of MP Pierre Amin Gemayel, Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri issued the following statement:

“When the criminal killers succeeded in assassinating Pierre Amin Gemayel five years ago, they knew that they were directing a strong blow to the independence movement in Lebanon, and they were betting on hitting the leadership of this movement in order to crush it. I indeed felt the sturdiness of this blow and the magnitude of the loss inflicted by the criminals to our ranks, due to the role played by Martyr Pierre on the level of the March 14 leadership, and due to the tasks that he carried on the level of the party and the country and enabled him to occupy advanced positions in defending the freedom of the Lebanese people and their independent national decision.

Pierre Amin Gemayel was not just a brother, a friend, or a constant partner in the follow up of the daily track of the March 14 Movement, but he represented the dreams and hopes that we shared in order to draft the new future of Lebanon. Other martyrs of freedom and independence also fell for the same dreams, however the tools of killing and terrorism haven’t been able to extinguish their flames.

The dreams of Pierre Amin Gemayel are renewed in us every day. And as the Lebanese bet on his logic, vitality and strong will, today they bet on the young generation who grew up with Pierre and became the strong base to confront the projects of armed dominance that seek to hinder the Lebanese national decision, and to save Lebanon from the policies that seek to divert its democratic identity.

Martyr Pierre was a special flower in the garden of Lebanon’s spring. His name will remain a milestone in this spring which shone in March 14, presenting the civilized example of the Arab spring and of the movement of the people aspiring for freedom, democracy and dignity. Today, just as in all commemorations of martyrdom in Lebanon, we stress to Pierre Amin Gemayel that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon continues its work to hold the killers accountable, achieve justice and end the era of organized political crime, at a time when the people of the region are on their way to end the era of killing, tyranny and terrorism.

Rest in peace Pierre, my brother, friend and companion of the difficult days, because justice will surely prevail”.
