National Liberal Party (NLP) leader MP Dori Chamoun called on Thursday for trying Change and Reform bloc leader Michel Aoun “for obstruction of justice.” Chamoun also said that Prime Minister Najib Mikati “[is unable] to follow through with his commitments.” He also downplayed the possibility of Mikati resigning. “The last thing Mikati would like to do is step down,” Chamoun told the Voice of Lebanon (100.5) radio station. Aoun said on Tuesday that he is against paying Lebanon’s share of funding to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon because the tribunal is “unconstitutional.” Four Hezbollah members have been indicted by the UN-backed court in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. However, the Shia group strongly denies the charges and refuses to cooperate with the court. Lebanon contributes 49 percent of the STL’s annual funding. -NOW Lebanon
