The Daily Star - Police arrest 2 for auto-theft crimes, December 19th 2011

BEIRUT: Judicial police arrested Sunday two men in Mansourieh suspected of robbing cars in the Beirut and Mount Lebanon areas.
At around 1:30 a.m., police in Ashrafieh arrested Elias Qortbawi, 20, who confessed to stealing cars and transferring them to another man, identified as Rajeh Dandash, in the Bekaa, east Lebanon.
Qortbawi agreed to help authorities apprehend Dandash and a trap was set for the car dealer in Mansourieh. Police planned to catch Danadash while Qortbawi attempted to transfer a stolen vehicle to the car dealer.
However, Danadash, who was accompanied by his son at the time, saw through the ploy and tried to flee the area, driving into police cars and firing shots at security forces.
Police retaliated after Dandash stepped out of his car and wounded the Bekaa man in his legs.
Police will investigate the man after he receives medical treatment.
Dandash is also suspected of being part of a bigger auto-theft gang.
