Now Lebanon - An-Nahar: Jumblatt seeks rapprochement on false witnesses issue - October 12, 2010

An-Nahar newspaper reported on Tuesday that Democratic Gathering leader MP Walid Jumblatt launched a shuttle diplomacy initiative between disputing Lebanese parties to foster domestic calm and consensus.
The source added that Jumblatt has been telling political leaders that Tuesday’s cabinet session should not have a vote on Lebanon’s funding to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) or Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar’s report on false witnesses.
Following his meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri on Tuesday, Jumblatt described Najjar’s report on the false witnesses issue as unbiased and technical.
Tuesday’s cabinet session is expected to address the issue of witnesses who gave false testimonies to the international investigation of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination. Several March 8 figures have called for the matter to be referred to the Justice Council.
