Now Lebanon - Political parties are behind Roumieh prison riot, says source - April 5, 2011

Al-Jumhuriya newspaper reported on Tuesday that recent riots in Roumieh Prison were highly organized and were backed by political parties in order to spotlight poor prison conditions in Lebanon.
“Restarting the riots in the prison shows that these parties are persisting with this movement in order to enlarge the problem and accelerate the proposal of an amnesty law,” an anonymous well-informed source told the daily.
A riot broke out in Roumieh Prison on Saturday when prisoners began protesting cell searches. The disobedience ended on Sunday after successful negotiations with the prisoners, but tensions reportedly sparked again on Monday night.
