Now Lebanon - Roumieh inmate calls for official pardon - April 5, 2011

An inmate at the Roumieh Prison on Tuesday called for granting the prisoners an official pardon and decreasing the length of their sentences.
The man –who spoke on condition of anonymity –told MTV that “the problem is not with the prison’s security forces, but with the Lebanese judiciary.”
“We took over all of the prison’s facilities and security forces are kept outside,” he added.
Another inmate also told MTV that fire is still ablaze in the compound’s kitchen.
He said that there is a possibility that the diesel tanks in the kitchen will explode due to the fire.
Protests in Roumieh’s Prison broke out yesterday for the second time in 48 hours.
Inmates at Roumieh– which is one of the biggest prisons in the Middle East and holds 4,500 inmates despite being built to hold only 1,500 – had been demanding an amnesty and better conditions.
