Daily Star - Gemayel: Hand over 4 suspects indicted by STL, December 9th 2011

BEIRUT: Kataeb (Phalange) MP Sami Gemayel called Thursday for the handover of four Hezbollah members indicted in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
Speaking in a lecture at the Kataeb branch in Ashrafieh, Gemayel also warned against attempts to abolish the cooperation protocol signed by Lebanon and the U.N.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
The protocol expires in March. Gemayel praised the government’s decision to pay Lebanon’s $32 million share to the STL’s funding “because the funding is one of the most important commitments to achieve justice.”
Apparently referring to Hezbollah, which strongly opposed the STL’s funding, Gemayel called on “anyone who criticized the logic of funding to quickly hand over the four accused in the assassination of [former] Prime Minister Rafik Hariri to help launch the process of trial without delay.”
He warned against “tampering” with the protocol signed by Lebanon and the STL.
“This subject is no less important than the issue of the tribunal’s funding,” Gemayel said. Earlier Thursday, Gemayel met with Armenian Catholic Patriarch of Cilicia Nerses Bedros Tarmouni XIX at the patriarch’s headquarters in Ashrafieh.
The talks focused on “local and regional developments, especially the conditions of Christians in the countries which are witnessing revolutions.”
