BEIRUT: A Lebanese woman who called the Internal Security Forces for help early Tuesday morning, claiming to have escaped her kidnappers in Jbeil, was in fact lying, security sources told The Daily Star.
“It seems that the woman who was identified only by her first name as Sawsan is mentally ill and attempted to deceive the ISF with an emergency call,” said the source, hours after the ISF dispatched its units to look for a possible kidnapping victim.
There have been several kidnappings in Lebanon recently, the latest victim being Ahmad Zeidan, head of the Liban Lait dairy, who was released Sunday after being abducted in the Bekaa four days earlier.
The source said that the woman called police in Tripoli around midnight to report that she had just escaped from four men who had kidnapped her in a white taxi in Jbeil.
Police maintained contact with Sawsan in an effort to locate her, until her mobile was turned off at 9:30 a.m.
According to the source, Sawsan called the ISF more than three times, giving them information about her location. “In separate calls every 20 minutes, the woman told the ISF that she was in a forest in different areas north of Jbeil,” said the source in reference to the woman who said she’d escaped her abductors.
