During an interview to Al-Jazeera Channel, Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed Saturday that the false witnesses' dossier related to former PM Rafic Hariri's assassination does exist and shall be tackled at the right time noted that said dossier has already been opened, awaiting the suitable time for being discussed.
PM Mikati described the situation in Lebanon as being delicate; thus, the government has adopted an impartial and neutral policy for the sake Lebanon's overall national interest.
The Lebanese government harbours keen concern for the Arab unanimous decisions, and is sure of the Arab Leagues' understanding of Lebanon's stands as well as Lebanon's delicate position, whereby the Lebanese government wishes to protect Lebanon from any repercussions resulting from conditions inside Syria.
Concerning any possible effect by the enforced Arab League sanctions on Syria, Mikati indicated that Lebanon is not affected by said sanctions.
Regarding the Lebanese-Syrian borders, Mikati stated that controlling said borders is to both Lebanon and Syria's benefit. However, he pointed out that issue of Syrian citizens seeking refuge in Lebanon is an utterly humanitarian matter and is being approached from a humanitarian perspective.
Concerning his previous resignation threat if Lebanon's portion in financing the Special tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is not approved, Mikati said that the resignation is not an aim as much as being a manner of expressing a strong stand to be adopted in case of failure to approve said funding.
The STL has been established for the sake of truth and justice, stressing that he can never stand as an obstacle in the face of justice. However, Mikati expressed rejection of any politicization of the STL whatsoever.
Over the cabinet situation, PM Mikati considered that the Lebanese government has ventured into a new phase. Accordingly, he urged all cabinet ministers to work on vital projects and imploring them to remain focused on the overall national benefit.
The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.
