BEIRUT:
Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abu Faour filed a lawsuit over the weekend against
anyone involved or having knowledge in the case of the alleged sexual assault
and sexual harassment by a teacher on a number of underage students at a Mount
Lebanon school.
Judicial
sources told The Daily Star Sunday that a 22-year-old teacher had allegedly
sexually assaulted several young girls between the ages of 6 and 8 at a Mount
Lebanon school where he worked.
On
some occasions, the teacher had allegedly disrobed the girls and taken
photographs of them nude, they added.
After
his activities became public, the teacher did not return to the school and
switched his mobile phone off, the sources said.
Abu
Faour used his prerogatives as the head of the Higher Council for Childhood to
file the suit and called Saturday on the office of the Public Prosecutor to
launch a probe into incident in order to identify the perpetrators and bring
them to account.
The
National News Agency said a meeting would be held Monday morning at the Social
Affairs Ministry and include the education and justice ministers to follow up
on the case.
Local
media reports over the weekend said a 22-year-old teacher had sexually
assaulted 11 underage female students at the school where he worked.
LBC television said the
man, identified by the initials B.S., was being treated at a hospital under
armed guard after suffering injuries in a motor accident.
