The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Outgoing Prime Minister Saad HAriri headed a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Roumieh prison with the concerned authorities.


The meeting attended by outgoing Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar, outgoing Interior Minister Ziad Baroud, Prosecutor General Saeed Mirza, Internal Security Forces chief Ashraf Rifi, and acting gendarmerie chief Salah Jebran, a statement issued by Hariri's media office said.

The members of the meeting voiced the importance of dealing with the situation immediately and issued a series of instructions.

Instructions were given to the security forces and army to firmly contain any situation in the prison.

The Higher Relief Commission was tasked with rehabilitating Roumieh prison, the General Inspectorate of the ISF was appointed to remain in contact the families of the Roumieh Prison inmates.

The members of the meeting also agreed on setting up a complaint office in the prison and building a court room outside the building to speed up the trials of detainees. ,

The statement added that the members agreed to install surveillance cameras in the prison, set up a cell phone jamming systems, and order a strict inspections of the prison.

The statement added that the members also on deporting foreign inmates to their countries in coordination with relevant authorities.
