Now Lebanon - Budget approval needed for new prisons, Najjar says - April 3, 2011

Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar on Sunday said that the cabinet agreed to build three new prisons but “the decision awaits budget approval.”
“There is a security [issue] in prisons and it falls under the jurisdiction of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) and the Interior Ministry,” he told New TV.
“We should cooperate with [the ISF and Interior Ministry] to reduce the overcrowding in prisons,” Najjar added.
A riot broke out in Roumieh Prison on Saturday when prisoners began protesting cell searches. The disobedience ended on Sunday after successful negotiations with the prisoners.
