Interior Minister Ziad Baroud on Sunday said that his ministry acted with restraint in dealing with the Roumieh Prison riot and did not cause any bloodshed.
“[The Interior Ministry] did its duty, especially considering the prisoners made righteous demands,” he told NBN television.
“I was careful about not giving promises that I cannot implement,” Baroud added.
A riot broke out in Roumieh Prison on Saturday when prisoners began protesting cell searches. The disobedience ended on Sunday after successful negotiations with the prisoners.
