Now Lebanon - Hajjar: Are Roumieh riots an attack on Baroud? - April 6, 2011

“Are there those who want to show that Interior Minister [Ziad Baroud] is incapable?” Lebanon First bloc MP Mohammad Hajjar asked on Wednesday afternoon.
The timing of recent riots in Roumieh Prison raises “question marks,” he told MTV.
“Are there those who want to show that security in the country is not good?”
The formation of Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati’s cabinet is reportedly being hampered by a dispute between President Michel Sleiman and Free Patriotic Movement Michel Aoun over the Interior Ministry.
Aoun is demanding a blocking third of cabinet seats, including the Interior Ministry portfolio currently held by Baroud as part of Sleiman’s cabinet share.
Protests in Roumieh’s Prison have been ongoing for several days. Inmates at Roumieh – which is one of the biggest prisons in the Middle East and holds 4,500 inmates despite being built to hold only 1,500 – had been demanding amnesty and better conditions.
