The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

The Daily Star - Jordanian and Egyptian win Samir Kassir Award, June 4 2012


BEIRUT: A Jordanian and an Egyptian won the Samir Kassir Award for Freedom of the Press 2012 for the best investigative report and opinion article respectively. In a ceremony Saturday which marked the seventh anniversary of the assassination of journalist Samir Kassir, Jordanian journalist Suleiman al-Khalidi won the award in the category of best opinion article for “Shattered Humanity inside Syria’s Security Apparatus,” published by Reuters on May 26, 2011.
Egyptian journalist Pakinam Amer won best investigative report for her article “The Curious Case of Reda Hilal” published by Al-Masri al-Youm newspaper in July 2011. Khalidi and Amer were each awarded 10,000 euros. The contest, organized by the EU for the seventh consecutive year, saw 160 participants this year. Speaking during the ceremony, Angelina Eichhorst, head of EU delegation in Lebanon, said the EU provides funds for the award to stress “our commitment to immortalize Samir Kassir’s memory and his battle for the freedom of expression.”
