April 6, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Succariyeh: STL is a US tool to blackmail Syria

Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Walid Succariyeh told Al-Manar television on Tuesday that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is a US tool to blackmail Syria.

If the US administration believes causing sedition in Lebanon would further its interests as well as Israel’s, then it would not stop short of accusing Hezbollah of being behind the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, Succariyeh said.

He also said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to strike Iran before holding negotiations with its neighboring states.

However, Washington is well aware of the repercussions of such a step on US interests in the region, he said, adding, “[That] is why the US administration does not allow Netanyahu to take any military action against Iran.”

Succariyeh touched on the drugs and weapons – which were confiscated by the Lebanese authorities in the northern town of Ouyoun Orgosh on Saturday – saying the shipment was found in an area dominated by the Lebanese Forces. He added that it is a possibility the drugs and weapons belonged to the LF.
