Naharnet -ISF Arrests Man Wanted for Beating Wife and Child

ISF Arrests Man Wanted for Beating Wife and Her Child
The Choueifat police force arrested on Tuesday a Lebanese man accused of beating his wife and her child.
The 40-year-old suspect was arrested at his sister's house in Bchamoun during a raid conducted by the Choueifat police force, the Internal Security Forces General Directorate said in a statement.

The case is now in the hands of the justice system.

Abdul Menem Khaled Awad is suspected of having imprisoned his 30-year-old wife Roula Messara and her six-year old son from a previous marriage for three weeks at their home in the northern city of Tripoli.

"He beat me and insulted me regularly. Two days ago, he was caught doing the same to my child," Messara told reporters at the Islamic Hospital in Tripoli, where she was taken together with her son on Saturday.

"He beat him on the head in such a way that my son threw up several times. He then burned his body with cigarettes," said the veiled victim, who appeared to be still in a state of shock.

The husband "drank excessively" and had threatened the "worst revenge" before attacking the child, she added, without giving other details of the reasons for the violence.

The child must now have several operations on different parts of the body for his injuries, a hospital source said.(Naharnet-AFP)
