The Daily Star - Sidon residents stage second day of protest against power outages - August 10, 2011

SIDON: Sidon residents blocked roads with burning tires in various areas of the city Wednesday in the second day in a row of protests against power outages, preventing Civil Defense personnel from putting out the fires.
Residents told The Daily Star that some areas have not had electricity for between 36 and 48 hours.
Electricity du Liban workers staged nationwide strikes Tuesday, leaving many areas without power.
Maintenance workers at EDL in Sidon attributed the long hours of power outages to consumption exceeding available energy.
Civil Defense was negotiating with protesters Wednesday afternoon to end the demonstration and open roads.
On Tuesday, Sidon residents said they would escalate street action if the power outages persisted.
