Naharnet - Beirut Judge Receives Files in Al-Jadeed Attack Case, July 3 2012

Beirut Examining Magistrate Ghassan Owaidat received on Monday the prosecution file against Wissam Aleddine, who is accused of attacking al-Jadeed television on June 25.
He is held on charges of attempted murder and weapons possession.
Owaidat is expected to interrogate the suspect on Tuesday or a later date.
Al-Jadeed was the target of a shooting by masked gunmen who then burnt tires in front of the television’s headquarters.
Security forces managed to arrest Alaeddine, whom An Nahar daily said is an official in the Resistance Brigades that played a role in the May 7, 2008 events.
The daily reported that the attack on al-Jadeed last week was supposed to be followed with one on Future Television but Alaeddine’s injury while burning tires prevented the plan.
The attack against al-Jadeed was prompted by the television station’s hosting of the Imam of Sidon’s Bilal bin Rabah mosque Sheikh Ahmed al-Asir, who launched a scathing attack against Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah and Speaker Nabih Berri.
Al-Jadeed has since apologized for the cleric’s statements.
