BEIRUT: Four Palestinian men, who were detained in 2007 for
alleged ties with Fatah al-Islam, were released Monday from Roumieh prison,
northeast of Beirut, on bail.
They were handed over to General Security pending the
finalization of paperwork.
Bail was set at LL500,000 per person.
The government sped up the trials of approximately 180 Islamists
detained without charge following the 2007 battles between the Lebanese Army
and the Al-Qaeda affiliated Fatah al-Islam in the Palestinian refugee camp of
Nahr al-Bared, north Lebanon.
The decision came after relatives of the inmates protested for
months demanding that the government speed up legal procedures as most of the
detainees have yet to face trial.
Fourteen
Islamists were released last month.
