Now Lebanon - SSNP: We want ‘practical, methodical and decisive steps’ regarding STL’s false witnesses - September 23, 2010

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) said that the issue of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL)’s false witnesses should takes precedence and requires the government to take “practical, methodical and decisive steps” especially in light of the current domestic and regional conditions.

Tension between the Future Movement and Hezbollah ran high in Lebanon after armed Hezbollah bodyguards received former General Security chief Jamil as-Sayyed at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport on Saturday without the required permission from any of the relevant bodies.

Sayyed, who had returned from France, was summoned by Attorney General Judge Said Mirza for questioning following the former’s September 12 statement, in which he attacked Hariri. Hezbollah called on the judiciary to revoke the summons.

The SSNP statement also said that current direct negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel under the patronage of the US are dangerous, “since the Palestinians cannot reject any proposal.”
