Now Lebanon - Tawhid Movement: Pietton is interfering in Lebanon’s affairs - September 24, 2010

The Tawhid Movement issued a statement on Friday that “French Ambassador to Lebanon Denis Pietton is interfering in Lebanon’s domestic affairs after his attempt to target the Resistance through the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).”

“Pietton should have been more considerate to the sensitivity of the situation in Lebanon and should have reported it to his government,” the statement said.

In an interview with An-Nahar newspaper published on Thursday, Pietton said that “it would not be the end of the world” if Hezbollah members were indicted by the STL, adding that “Hezbollah, as a party, will not be accused [of the 2005 assassination of former Premier Rafik Hariri] if [its party members] are indicted.”

Tension ran high in Lebanon after reports said that the STL will soon issue its indictment in the Rafik Hariri murder. Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said in July that the tribunal is an Israeli project that will indict Hezbollah members.
