The Daily Star - Journalists Union’s polls slammed as illegal, May 17 2012

BEIRUT: Elections to be held later this month for a new executive council of the Journalists Union are illegal, two media groups charged Wednesday.
The League of Media Faculty Alumni from the Lebanese University and the Press Club issued a statement in which they complained that the official call for elections was issued by the Journalists Union council, “whose legitimacy has been challenged” with the judiciary.
“The call for elections is null and void,” the organizations said, urging Mohammad Baalbeki, the head of the Press Federation, which represents the owners of newspapers and periodicals, to intervene in the matter.
The two groups said the Journalists Union should be purged of undeserving members before any election takes place. Members of the Journalists Union’s council have pledged to undertake such reforms following the elections on May 29.
