The Special Tribunal for Lebanon's (STL) Outreach Office refused to comment on Canadian broadcaster CBC’s report pertaining to alleged evidence linked to former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination, As-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper reported.
In an interview with the daily published on Tuesday, STL Outreach Officer Wajed Ramadan said that her bureau has no authority to comment on the issue.
“The Office of the STL Prosecutor is only authorized to respond [to such issues],” Ramadan said, adding that the court’s investigation remains classified.
Meanwhile, an unnamed Hezbollah source told the same daily that the CBC report does not concern his party.
“What is being leaked through foreign media proves that the STL is politicized,” the source added.
Tensions are rising in Lebanon amid reports that the tribunal is set to issue an indictment for the Rafik Hariri murder. CBC said Monday it had evidence from the UN inquiry strongly linking Hezbollah to the massive car bomb which killed Hariri and 22 others in February 2005.
