The Daily Star - Couple arrested for beating their 9-month-old baby, June 2 2012

BEIRUT: Police arrested a couple Friday for allegedly beating their 9-month-old daughter, who was taken to a Chouf hospital with severe brain injuries. Security sources told The Daily Star that the child, Cassandra, was beaten by her Syrian father and Lebanese mother. Social Affairs Minister Wael Abu Faour visited the girl at the Chouf’s Ain wa Zein Hospital, and called on judicial authorities to hand down a stiff punishment. The child is unconscious and in intensive care, and Abu Faour said her parents have been stripped of their parental rights. “Unfortunately there are monsters in some families who lack human conscience,” he said.
