House Speaker Nabih Berri held talks on Thursday with French President Nicolas Sarkozy on all issues related to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and the international investigation.
He described the meeting and its results as "excellent", revealing that the French president intends on visiting Lebanon.
On Tuesday, Berri had voiced Lebanon's gratitude for France's constant support to the country, which he said is a sign of its ongoing aim to fortify Lebanon and bolster its stability.
His statements came during a reception held in his honor by Lebanese Ambassador to Lebanon, Butros Asaker.
The speaker stressed that all political and parliamentary powers in Lebanon seek justice and the truth, but they simultaneously reject wasting time in the matter and the investigation's ruling out the possibility that those who benefited the most from former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri's assassination be disregarded as main suspects.
Such actions will subject Lebanon to the possibility of strife, which would prevent it from thriving economically in the region, Berri continued.
Addressing the tense political situation in Lebanon, he said that Syria and Saudi Arabia will continue on protecting it from unrest and instability.
Furthermore, Berri addressed the country's economic situation, urging the international community to eliminate Lebanon's massive $53 billion debt, which he said was caused by the Lebanese civil war and Israel's various assaults against the country.
"What nation could possibly withstand all these wars?" he asked.
