A preliminary hearing for an Ethiopian domestic worker charged with killing her employer's four-year-old daughter, Celine Rakan, was set for next week.
A judicial source told The Daily Star that Judge Hani Habbal will cross-examine the Ethiopian woman at the Beirut court next Tuesday.
Following the hearing, Habbal will set a date for her trial before the Beirut criminal court.
The maid was arrested in October after her employer accused her of strangling his daughter earlier that month.
News of the girl’s death went viral on social media after her father originally said his daughter died one day after being administered a vaccine.
At the time, attention was focused on the doctor who administered the vaccine. The doctor was briefly interrogated and quickly released.
But the father then claimed that the maid strangled the girl.
He presented security footage from inside the house to support his claim, but the video contained several inconsistencies and did not show the maid committing any crime, leading to more questions than answers.
Police claimed that the unnamed maid confessed to the killing after her arrest in October.
